Born in 2010, Mae Buay spent the early years of her life in a trekking camp alongside her mother, Mae Yui, carrying tourists in Chiang Mai’s tourism industry. In 2015, both mother and daughter were finally brought back to the jungle, where Buay could begin experiencing the freedom and peace every elephant deserves.
Soon after Mae Buay arrived in the jungle, Gili was born. Mae Buay quickly took on the role of nanny to Gili, helping to care for this new arrival to the herd. Mae Buay and Gili formed a strong bond over the years and are now best of friends. Their bond remains inseparable today, and the two are rarely seen far apart in the jungle.
