Born in 1982, Mae Boon Sri spent many years in elephant camps across Chiang Mai, giving rides to tourists and performing in shows day after day. Exhausted from the relentless routine, she would sometimes become so tired that she simply refused to walk any further. In late 2015, she was finally rescued and brought back to the jungle – and in a powerful act of determination, Mae Boon Sri refused transportation by truck, instead walking for several days from Mae Taeng to Mae Wang to reach her new home.
Today, Mae Boon Sri is thriving in the freedom of the forest alongside her daughters, Gili, born in 2017 and baby Luna, who was born in 2024. A gentle and devoted mother, she spends her days peacefully foraging through the jungle, splashing in mud pools, and caring for her family – living the life every elephant deserves.
